The Ponemon Institute has put out their fourth annual Patient Privacy & Data Security Study, and the results are pretty interesting. The main finding in the study is that human error, or employee negligence, is viewed as the biggest threat to patient data security. 75% of study participants view human error as the main threat to security, followed by public cloud services, mobile devices, and cyber-attacks. Human error being the main cause of healthcare insecurity is concerning, but not altogether that surprising. I feel like it’s practically everyday we hear about another laptop or USB being stolen from someone’s office, car, home, etc.
